The urban development project Frederiksbro Stage 2 in Hillerød will see 44,400 m2 of housing, business premises and underground car park being built, and the construction will consist of two blocks of flats and two 15-storey tower blocks. The homes and the business premises with a supermarket, medical centre, nursey, cafés, health club and car park will be ready for occupancy in 2021. DN Tømrer A/S uses two Smartlifts for window installation on the urban development project, and they have chosen the SL208 Indoor model, as it is a compact and powerful glass lifter that can lift up to 208 kg. The carpentry firm already has two Outdoor Smartlifts, but the two Indoor Smartlifts are more suitable for window installation in apartment buildings with narrow corridors and doorways. The SL208 Indoor has a narrow chassis and a turning circle of just 88 cm, which makes the glass lifter easy to manoeuvre anywhere in the apartment building: “The size of the Smartlift means that it can go anywhere in the building, even through narrow passageways, corridors and doorways. The SL208 Indoor can also easily fit in an elevator, so it is the perfect size for apartment buildings”, explains Martin Vestergaard, carpenter, DN Tømrer A/S.
DN Tømrer A/S is very committed to creating good working conditions for their employees while at the same time increasing productivity. That is why they have chosen to use Smartlifts for window installation. With the SL208 Indoor, employees at DN Tømrer A/S can install up to 25 windows every day on the urban development project. For employees at DN Tømrer A/S, the ergonomics of the Smartlift are among the glass lifter’s biggest advantages, as 60–180 kg windows can be installed with the SL208 Indoor handling all the heavy lifting over a long working day. Using the Smartlift has had a noticeably positive effect on the employees’ physical health, and it means they can work many hours every day without any adverse effects: “With a Smartlift, the ergonomics are fantastic. I work every day between 06:00 and 19:00, and even after a long working day I don’t feel any pain in my body, because the Smartlift can handle all the heavy lifts during window installation”, explains Martin Vestergaard, carpenter, DN Tømrer A/S.
The Smartlift also helps to improve working conditions for DN Tømrer A/S’ employees, as they no longer have to lift many kilos every day, and the SL208 Indoor therefore also reduces the risk of work-related injuries and physical disabilities. Good working conditions are something 21-year-old apprentice carpenter Jens Kirk Boysen thinks about a lot, as he has many years left in the labour market: “Using the Smartlift for window installation is very easy on my body. It is paramount that I take care of my health, because I’m just 21 years old, so I have many years left in the labour market. The Smartlift is an important tool when it comes to avoiding occupational injuries”, says Jens Kirk Boysen, apprentice carpenter, DN Tømrer A/S.
The Smartlift makes the installation process easier and more efficient and productive for DN Tømrer A/S’ employees because it handles all lifting tasks from when the window is prepared until it is installed: “The SL208 Indoor has great functionality, because we can use it to lift the heavy windows when they need to be prepared for installation. We can then install the windows using the Smartlift, and we have not lifted or handled the windows manually at all throughout the process”, says Martin Vestergaard, carpenter, DN Tømrer A/S. The great functionality of the Smartlift can also be seen in the wireless remote control. The wireless remote control offers a great deal of flexibility during window installation, as employees can make fine adjustments to the window’s position while they are at the installation site: “We have chosen a wireless remote control so that we can take it to the installation site. We use the remote control for fine adjustments during window installation, so we can make sure that the window is fitted perfectly,” explains Martin Vestergaard, carpenter, DN Tømrer A/S.
The Smartlift also ensures great precision during window installation, e.g. by using the joystick, the sensitivity of which can be adjusted to maximise precision during the lift. The joystick makes the SL208 Indoor very easy to manoeuvre and control during window installation, and employees can fit the windows with extreme precision: “With the Smartlift, you get millimetre precision during window installation. The Smartlift ensures that we can work quickly, flexibly and accurately when we install windows during the working day,” says Martin Vestergaard, apprentice carpenter, DN Tømrer A/S.
The Smartlift is very easy to use and intuitive for the carpentry firm’s employees, and they have quickly learned how to use the glass lifter in the installation work: “The Smartlift is incredibly user-friendly. It is easy to operate the lift, and after a single window installation with the SL208 Indoor, I was very comfortable using it because it is so intuitive and logically structured” – Jens Kirk Boysen, apprentice carpenter, DN Tømrer A/S.
The ergonomics of a Smartlift are fantastic. I work every day between 06:00 and 19:00, and even after a long working day I don’t feel any pain in my body, because the Smartlift handle all the heavy lifts during window installation
Another advantage of the Smartlift is its double vacuum circuit, which ensures greater and better safety for DN Tømrer A/S’ employees: “I trust the Smartlift 100% due to the lift’s double vacuum circuit. Even if a hose should break, the second set of suction cups will still stick to the window. This adds a great level of safety”, explains Martin Vestergaard, qualified carpenter, DN Tømrer A/S. Martin Vestergaard has previously tried to use hand-held suction cups during manual window installation, but the disadvantage was that he could not be sure whether the suction cup would keep its vacuum throughout the entire installation, which meant great uncertainty and a risk of work-related injuries. In contrast, the Smartlift ensures a high level of safety for users during window installation due to the double vacuum circuit.
The Smartlift also ensures great freedom of movement for DN Tømrer A/S’ employees, and they do not have to use fall protection belts and lines when they use the Smartlift for window installation. Using the Smartlift, the employees drive the window to the installation site, and the window is placed so close to the installation site that there is a gap of just a few centimetres between the window and the railing. The railing is then taken down and removed, so that the employees can install the window in the building. This workflow ensures that employees are not exposed to the risk of falling: “With a Smartlift, I get great freedom of movement during window installation. The Smartlift holds the window up close to the installation site as we remove the railing, and that means I don’t have to wear a fall protection harness and line. When I use the Smartlift during window installation, I am not restricted by the line, and I can move around the entire apartment building freely”, explains Martin Vestergaard, apprentice carpenter, DN Tømrer A/S.
The Smartlift ensures that employees can work flexibly and efficiently when installing windows in the urban development project, as the Smartlift can run all day on a single charge: “The Smartlift is reliable. The lift can be charged at night and will then run all day, which means we can work efficiently throughout the working day. I would definitely recommend Smartlift to other carpenters”, concludes Martin Vestergaard, carpenter, DN Tømrer A/S.
The Smartlift is very user-friendly. It’s easy to operate the lift, and I was very comfortable using the SL208 Indoor – even after just one window installation – because it is so intuitive and logically structured
