Kai Andersen A/S

As part of a high-rise construction project in Copenhagen, two large windows on the fourth floor needed replacement. Kai Andersen A/S took on the job, which proved to be technically demanding.

A technically challenging task

The building features an enclosed inner courtyard with no access for cranes or lifting equipment from the outside.
This meant the replacement had to be done from the inside out on the fourth floor.

Each window weighed about 825 lbs, requiring a lifting solution that could handle the heavy weight, fit into the construction elevator, and manoeuvre safely past columns and doorways inside the building. Most standard lifters were therefore not an option.

Power and flexibility

The solution was a Smartlift SLX 2000, a powerful and flexible glass lifter that combines high lifting capacity with compact design and precise control.

The machine can lift up to 2,200 lbs using vacuum, even when the load is positioned 4.1 feet in front of the front wheels.
With a width of only 3.3 feet, it could be transported to the fourth floor by elevator and safely manoeuvred through narrow passages and doorways.

It can be operated and driven by remote control, giving the operator full visibility during both lifting and transport; a major advantage when working in tight spaces. It can also be steered using the built-in handle.

Endless rotation

Up to 2,200 lb lifted 4.1 ft in front of the machine

The old windows were detached from the frame, lifted into the inner courtyard, and rotated 90 degrees.
Thanks to the infinite rotation, the damaged windows could easily be angled through the opening and safely pulled inside, where they were placed on an A-frame.

The new windows were then lifted and positioned alongside the machine to minimize width during transport.
At the opening, the SLX 2000 tilted, rotated, and positioned the windows precisely into place, allowing installation to be completed by two industrial climbers outside and the Kai Andersen crew inside.
