A dairy with a production line for cheese has more than 400 employees and advanced production equipment. Operations involve extensive maintenance of machines and installations. With limited space among pipes, machines, and other installations, maintenance work is a significant challenge.
A need to lift and move heavy objects in tight spaces
The maintenance department faced considerable difficulties maneuvering and maintaining heavy equipment, especially pumps and valves. It was necessary to move these, remove covers from the Multivac machines, and lift heavy bowls from the machines – all according to the production schedule.
The use of traditional forklifts was not an option due to the limited space, and it was challenging to carry out the maintenance work efficiently and safely.
A small helper with a strong arm
After seeing Smartlift at a trade fair, the maintenance department decided to acquire an SLI 208 Multi Lifter. This compact yet powerful multi lifter uses minimal space and, with the help of an extension arm, hook, and straps, can precisely maneuver and position heavy equipment in tight spaces.
With joystick control, a turning radius of only 35 in, and a lifting capacity of up to 440 lbs, the SLI 208 allows maintenance work to be carried out precisely and without physical strain on the employees.
The employees in the maintenance department appreciate their new "work colleague", which not only improves working conditions but also increases productivity by being able to operate for a whole workday on a single charge.
